In the year 2009 the German Charitable Organisation Johnannitter, through St. John International London funded a Disaster Preparedness program for Guyana which was conducted by the St. John Association. It was a useful outreach program which was held in every region with the exception of 1, 7, and 9. With the support of the Ministry of Education participants included not only adults but students and teachers.

St. John Guyana received funds for the employment of an Administrator and Special Trainer on full time basis and covered travelling costs, providing snacks etc.  In that process, two thousand, seven hundred and sixty-nine (2,769) persons benefitted.  That program highlighted the St. John Guyana potential to have ongoing programmes in rural areas subject to the availability of resources both human and financial.
